4 Reasons to Enable Two-Factor Authentication
Rebel now offers two-factor authentication (often shortened to 2FA) to help our customers elevate their account security.
Two-factor authentication adds an extra layer of protection to your account. Whenever you sign in to the Rebel.com website, you’ll need to enter both your password and also a security code from an authenticator app (read on to learn how enable it in your Rebel.com account).
Why would you want to use 2FA? A few of our awesome Customer Support agents (Michael, Louise, Adrienne, and Jonathan) have put together 4 reasons why it's a good idea.
- Malicious activity online has been on the rise. It seems like there is a new data breach almost every week. 2FA ensures that your account is secured, even if your password is exposed.
- Some passwords haven’t been refreshed for a long time. We're looking at you, person who hasn't changed their password since Grade 9.
- Passwords are often overly simple. We get it - it's easier to just use ABC123. But it puts your personal information and your important domains and hosting packages at risk.
- You use the same password with other online services. It might seem like you're making your life easier, but you're actually just making it easier for those nefarious types who like to steal passwords.
When you enable 2FA for your Rebel account, our system will associate a two-factor key and one-time recovery code to your account. You'll then input and save that key into an authentication application - we support Google Authenticator, Duo Mobile, and Authenticator for Windows Phone 7. Once you input and save the key into your chosen application, it will dynamically render a matching verification code every few seconds.
It's easy to set up and will provide you with peace of mind. If you need any help getting your 2FA protection enabled, our Customer Support team can give you a hand.
