Rebel.com is proud to announce that they are supporting the Government of Canada’s Connecting Families initiative, working with Computers for Success Canada (CFSC) to support families across Canada in bridging the digital divide.

The web hosting, web building, and domain name company is extending their phone and email support to assist program recipients with setting up and using their computers.

Connecting Families has provided close to 20,000 Canadian families with $10 internet plans to date. Through the Computers for Schools program, the Government of Canada is also providing up to 50,000 refurbished desktop computers to those families who may be unable to afford a home computer or device. Navigating the new device setup process can be intimidating and Rebel recognizes that this can deter new users and become a barrier to accessing the internet.

“The Connecting Families initiative gives Rebel.com the opportunity to provide access to technology, and build a stronger online community across the country,” said Rob Villeneuve, CEO of Rebel.com. “Our agents provide direction in real time, from device setup to accessing pre-installed software, and we’re extremely proud to be part of this program.”

Rebel has handled 900 support tickets to date, and customer support agents are anticipating an increase in customer outreach as further devices are delivered.

“CFSC-OPEC is very pleased to count on the support of Rebel.com to help deliver the Connecting Families initiative,” said Toby Harper-Merrett, Executive Director of CFSC-OPEC. “With the technical support provided by Rebel.com to the Connecting Families recipients, Canadian families are able to benefit from connectivity and opportunities for economic participation.”

“I can’t thank you enough. I never, ever thought I’d have a computer. Being a single mom on disability, I’ve never had an opportunity to purchase a computer, laptop or iPad. I just use a phone that is extremely expensive. For me and my kids, it costs more than heat and electricity and leaves no money for food or entertainment for kids. Our family appreciates this opportunity immensely.” — Catherine, BC (Connecting Families recipient)
